Storyline

When the workers of the Santa Hortensia mine demand a wage increase, tension begins to rise underground. Juan Chico — a miner who avoids going into the shafts due to an alleged case of silicosis — becomes the loudest voice in the negotiations. He pushes his fellow workers not to compromise and urges them to continue the strike at any cost. As the revolt grows, miners and their families remain at the site.
